1. Open a New Blank Document

  • Start Microsoft Word and open a new blank document.

2. Go to the Font Settings
  • On the Home tab in the ribbon, look for the Font section (where you see options for font type, size, bold, italic, etc.).
  • Click on the small arrow in the lower-right corner of the Font section to open the Font dialog box.

Another method

If the small arrow in the lower-right corner of the Font section is not visible in Microsoft Word on your Mac, you can still open the Font dialogue box using a keyboard shortcut.

Keyboard Shortcut to Open the Font Dialog Box on Mac:

• Press: Command + D

This will open the Font dialogue box, where you can set the default font, size, colour, and style.

Once you're in the Font dialogue box, you can follow the steps I mentioned earlier to set your default font preferences and apply them to all future documents.

3. Customize the Font, Size, Color, and Style

  • In the Font dialogue box, choose your preferred Font, Font Style (e.g., Bold, Italic), Size, and Font Color from the available options.
  • You can also adjust other settings like Underline Style or Effects (e.g., Strikethrough, Shadow, etc.) if desired.

For Example: I was select

Font Style: Times New Roman, Regular

Font Size: 12

Font Style: Black

4. Set as Default

  • After you've customized the settings, click the Set As Default button at the bottom of the Font dialogue box.
press Default Button

5. Choose the Scope of the Default Settings

  • A dialog box will appear asking whether you want to apply these changes to:
    • This document only – The changes will apply only to the current document.
    • All documents based on the Normal template – This will make your new settings the default for all new documents you create.
  • Select All documents based on the Normal template to set the default for all future documents.

6. Click OK

  • Click OK to save your changes.

To Reset the Default Font if Needed

If you want to reset the default font back to the original settings, follow the same steps and choose the default font settings in the Font dialog box (e.g., Times New Roman, 12pt, black color).

By following these steps, your font, font size, color, and style preferences will be automatically applied to all new documents you create in Word on your MacBook.
